Essendon's preparations for its Anzac Day blockbuster against Collingwood have hit another snag with former Blue Scott Camporeale ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Still reeling after the loss of skipper Matthew Lloyd for the rest of the season, the Bombers have lost another experienced campaigner in Camporeale, whose place in the team has been taken by Ricky Dyson.

Camporeale joins Lloyd and utility Mark Bolton - who was ruled out last week with a hamstring strain - on the sidelines.

Given the short five-day break between matches for Essendon, the former Blue could also miss the Bombers' round five clash against Hawthorn on Sunday.

Essendon welcomes back ruckman David Hille, who returns from suspension, and have selected mercurial forward Dean Rioli for his first game of the season.

Tagger Damien Peverill was left out of the final 22 and is an emergency along with Joel Reynolds and youngster Jay Nash.

Collingwood has left out veteran midfielder Scott Burns and dropped defender Harry O'Brien - who was the only change from the team that thrashed the Kangaroos last week - for full-back Simon Prestigiacomo.

However, coach Mick Malthouse has warned the Magpies would not be finalising their team until Tuesday, giving Burns hope of playing his first game of the season.

"I got found out with Scotty Burns. As well as he was last training session, he was crook by match day and we played a boy on the bench from Williamstown," Malthouse said on Monday morning.

"Our side will be settled tomorrow. Most of the players will know by that stage."
